Potential Landscape
Florian Kutzli, Fernando García-Dory
The transversal project relates the notions of independence and interdependence in the realm of topical rural research. Experienced in actual as well as in delayed time, the imaginary threads and steps of traveling together, are the points and surfaces of an interdependent landscape-painting.
Florian Kutzli first worked as a goat herder in France in 1992, becoming a professional farmer in Germany in 1998. In 2005 Florian concluded his studies as a Post-Industrial Designer at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst HGK in Basel and in 2006, the Landwirtschaftsmuseum in Weil am Rhein, Germany, showcased his solo exhibition 'le ballon blanc, florian kutzli, luftbilder'. For the exhibition carte blanche from December 2007 to January 2008 at the Musée Jurassien des Arts in Moutier, Florian conceived his project 'la roulotte blanche'. Subsequently, Florian curated five solo artists rural exhibitions under the heading' the shepherds' box' and in 2014, exhibited a series of cheese-making artworks at the Trienale d'art Contemporaine du Valais. Florian Kutzl holds a Master of Arts in Public Spheres from the Ecole Cantonal d'Art du Valais ECAV in Sierre, lives in Basel and nomadically works as a Shepherd and a Farmer in the Alpine Mountains in Switzerland.
Fernando García-Dory specifically works regarding the contemporary relationship between nature and culture and its manifestation in multiple contexts from the landscape and the rural, as well as the prospects concerned with identity, throughout (global) crisis, (global) utopia and the potential for (global) social change. Fernando studied Fine Arts and Rural Sociology and is presently working on his PhD on Agroecology. Fernando is interested in the harmonic complexity of biological forms and their processes. Garcia-Dory's work addresses the issues of connections and cooperation, departing from microorganisms to social systems, within a scope that engages traditional art models of expression - such as drawing - to manifestations related to collaborative actions akin to cooperatives and agroecological projects.
