		<description>

        Traversing Topologies
        Imagining worlds and knowledge with/through artistic research

«To conference» means finding a way to get together, sharing experiences, approaches, methods, processes and results. As an experimental form of conferencing Traversing Topologies: Imagining worlds and knowledge with/through artistic research has been interested in ways of experiencing real topologies in alignment with the numerous versions of their abstraction and generalization. The conference revealed geographical and disciplinary fringes, took place partly online but mainly in real space, and connected three linguistic regions – Central Switzerland, Valais and Ticino – with the Gotthard Area as the central knot between them.
 With decentralized actions, walks, performances, and interventions, Traversing Topologies: Imagining worlds and knowledge with/through artistic research explored mental, geographical and digital landscapes, and in the process suggested forward-looking perspectives for artistic research and knowledge configurations.
 The conference started on 25 September 2021&#38;nbsp; with an opening event at the Hochschule Luzern - Design &#38;amp; Kunst in Emmenbrücke, followed by two intermediate events in March 2022, to conclude with the main program from 13 May 2022 at SUPSI, La Scuola universitaria professionale della Svizzera italiana in Ticino, in parallel at EDHEA, École de design et haute école d’art du Valais in Sierre and on 14/15 May 2022 with various projects in the Gotthard area around Hospental, Realp and Andermatt. &#38;nbsp; We greatfully thank all contributing guests, artists, students, staff
and organisers for this dense and intense adventure in time and space
and hope for a continuation of thoughts and exchange.

Parallel program in Valais – see below
Friday 13 May — TICINO&#38;nbsp;

(Lugano/Chiasso)

Stop or Go: A Workshop on mobility, transport and storage of goods in the southern region of Switzerland

Organized by the SARN Working Group Methods &#38;amp; Practices –&#38;nbsp;Flavia Caviezel, Academy of Art and Design, University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Northwestern Switzerland &#38;amp; Priska Gisler, Academy of the Arts, Bern University of Applied Sciences
in collaboration with Silvia Converso und Iolanda Pensa, SUPSI.

During the SARN conference of May 13-14, 2022, the working group Methods &#38;amp; Practices organizes a one-day workshop on mobility, transport and storage of visible and invisible, liquid, solid, ephemeral goods in the border region of southern Switzerland.

This workshop on May 13 offers the opportunity to discuss, reflect and experience ideas, wishes and
artistic work while visiting two concrete sites that are both typical protagonists regarding the circulation and storage of material and ideal goods. The workshop consists primarily of two parts: The day will start with a site visit
 to the data storage centre CSCS Lugano. Intertwined with a tour, two artistic-research projects will be presented there. In the afternoon, we travel to Chiasso/Balerna in order to visit the bonded warehouse Punto Franco with a tour and get to know different approaches by two artistic and design researchers.

Friday 13 May —
VALAIS
(Sierre)
Walking Writing Mapping

With Nihan Somay &#38;amp; Eduardo Cruces, Aldis Gedutis &#38;amp; Vytautas Michelkevičius and Ronny Hardliz.
Organized by Petra Köhle, Federica Martini and Caterina Giansiracusa (EDHEA — The Valais School of Art).

This symposium on May 13 will take place in the alpine town of Sierre in the canton of Valais. Surrounded
by an impressive landscape, the site is witness to the (post-)industrial development of the valley, which in nowadays has become an international laboratory for research into the effects of climate change. The multi-layered nature of this landscape is reflected in the symposium’s two workshops in which collective writing
is practiced as an act of solidarity and mapping with artistic means examined as a possible way of understanding better what “to know” could mean.

For those arriving by train we will meet at the train station and walk to the EDHEA main building where the first workshop will take place. The afternoon will take place outside and includes walking (on roads and flat terrain).

A topological trajectory through the landscape in the Gotthard area:

Hospental/Realp/Andermatt
Organised by Rachel Mader, Maia Gusberti, Pablo Müller (Lucerne School of Art and Design)
Moderation and curatorial complicity by Jens Badura

Topologies order and cross territories just as they have the potential to open up spaces of imagination. We invite all participants of the conference as of Friday evening to the Gotthard region — the geographical node of the involved regions and infrastructural hubs. On Saturday, this geographically and historically multi-layered transitory landscape will serve us as a stage for actions and explorations that question topologies with artistic means and productively and speculatively transform and interpret them. The interventions are accompanied by culinary and philosophical locutions.

We take the train at 9.41 in Hospental towards Realp – the timeline below is an estimate and might change slightly. We’ll be walking in and through the landscape, so please bring good shoes and weatherproof clothing.

	Introduction
Rachel Mader

	With traversing topologies place a concept at the centre that, on the one hand, enables us to question the relationships between space, people, things and knowledge in a very fundamental way, conceiving these relationships as relational and dynamic and yet always being tied back to a temporal, local but also thematic specificity.

	Topographies
Kadiatou Diallo

	What immediately comes to mind when I think of traversing topologies is an exploration of what is and how it works; maybe even mapping that. I am drawn to a more invisible aspect of topologies: its cracks and how their potentials are continuously being shaped.

	Topologies of Artistic Research.
Notes on the Transformative Turn in Art
Sarah Kolb

	Within the past decades, an increasing interest in artistic research practices has brought about new experimental and transdisciplinary forms of knowledge production challenging the rigid borders of traditional disciplines. This turn towards more open-ended and transformational conceptions of knowledge is closely related to a specific interest in mathematical topology, which, in continuation of the pioneering debates within the historical avant-gardes, has had an ongoing impact on the arts since the 1960s. Starting from a non-binary logic of relations, transformations, and ambiguities, artists counter essentialist concepts such as the perfect masterpiece or sovereign authorship with process-oriented, performative, and participatory practices, thus making topology productive on a discursive, but also on a methodological level.

	Night Walks through Distribution Landscape
San Keller

	On the occasion of the release of the edition "Night Walks through Distribution Landscapes" at Galerie Lullin + Ferrari in Zurich, there will be an extra walk around Zurich Airport. In its vicinity, a number of companies specializing in colocation services have set up shop in recent years.&#38;nbsp;

«By means of our colocation services, you can rent dedicated rack space, which is located in a data center with the highest level of reliability and connectivity. Our server rooms offer multi-layered redundant security systems to ensure server housing in compliance with current global standards such as FINMA compliance.»&#38;nbsp;

So we walk through a distribution landscape of the digital. As secure as the data is stored, San Keller makes the trek no matter the weather and carries a carton of cigarettes.
 Performance
Oerlikon to Oerlikon,
Wednesday/Thursday,
March 2-3, 2022, 24-7
We will gather at midnight in front of Coop-Pronto at Oerlikon station. &#38;nbsp;
No registration needed.
